Kevin Harvick wins at Watkins Glen

August 14, 2006

Kevin Harvick was able to take the lead from Tony Stewart with three laps to go and went on to win. It looked like it was over for Harvick, but he didn’t give up and just waited for his break and he took it. He was able to simply power past the #20 car in one of the few passing zones on the road course in Upstate New York.

With the win, Harvick finds himself in the 3rd positions in the Nextel Cup points standing with only four races to go. Things didn’t go so well for a couple of drivers that were in need of good finishes to help them get closer to the Top 10 before the Richmond.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. was able to stay in the Top 10 thanks to his 18th place finish and Kasey Kahne’s last lap spin that saw him finish 22nd. That actually helped to expand the distance between Dale Jr. and Kahne. I found myself hoping that kahne would somehow have a bad finish and when I saw that he spun in the track I knew that it was exactly what I was hoping for and with Kahne slipping back to 22nd, it was enough to help put a little more distance with four races to go before the Chase for the Cup begins.
