Detroit Lions won their first preseason game

August 12, 2006

New head coach Rod Marinelli seems to be happy with his new team after they won their first preseason game. They were playing the Denver Broncos at home at Ford Field, in downtown Detroit. I know most people would say that I shouldn’t get excited over a dumb preseason football game, but when you are a Detroit lions fan, who hasn’t had a lot to be excited about over the past decade or so, you tend to get excite about any win.

All three QB’s played in the game and they all had fairly decent success; Jon Kitna, Dan Orlavski and Josh Mckown. Jon Kitna started the game and led the Lion’s to a field on the opening drive and looked pretty good. He was followed second year QB Dan Orlavski, who didn’t a have a great start (INT on his first pass) but he recovered well and through a TD pass. Josh McKown came in a finished up mid way through the third quarter and he had a pretty good game.

I am just hoping that the offense picks up with new Offensive Coordinator Martz and whichever QB that gets the nod for the starting job in game #1. I am not going to get overly optimistic and say that we will win so many games, but I will say I am encouraged after the first preseason game.

  2. I don’t understand why everyone makes such a big deal about the preseason. Unless a big name player gets hurt, it’s never, EVER an indication of how teams will do in the regular season. Brace yourself for another long, hard season in Detroit.
