Rhett Bomar is out at OU
It looks like the Oklahoma Sooners are looking for a new starting QB for the upcoming season. This is because returning starter Rhett Bomar was released by the University of Oklahoma for serious rules violations. The violations involved a summer job for which he received money for the hours he didn’t work.
Hopefully, the university go after the individual that hired Bomar and that knowingly violated the rules by paying Bomar an excessive amount of money. That kind of thing was prevalent back in ’70 and ’80 and was supposed to have been cleaned up, but apparently not. Most of the time, it involved boosters that thought they were helping out by making the offer of summer jobs to entice star athletes to pick their school over another.
This isn’t the first time Bomar got into trouble since he got to the University of Oklahoma, this summer he was picked up twice for under age drinking at Ford Center (Basketball Arena in Downtown OKC). Both of those situations were handled internally by the football coaches, but this time the infractions were much more serious and the University and head football Bob Stoops made the decision to kick him off the team indefinitely.
There was another player that was excused from the football team; J.D. Quinn. I haven’t heard what he did as of yet, but I hope to find out later on tonight. Rhett Bomar had a great career ahead of him at OU and maybe in the NFL, but now it doesn’t look to good.
This situation leaves the offensive coaches at OU in a bind to get the second string QB ready to start in the fall. Fortunately, we still have the top running back in the country in Adrian Peterson and as long as we have a decent QB we should be fine.
