Miami head coach has his priorities straight

July 31, 2006

Miami head coach Nick Saban found himself with a little dilemma; go to dinner with the President of the United States or meet his obligations with his team during training camp.

The invitation was for dinner with President Bush at Miami Beach‘s landmark restaurant Joe’s Stone Crabs. Coach Saban made the only choice as far as he was concerned and said that it was in no way disrespecting the importance of the invitation to have dinner with the President, but his team has to come first. Former Miami Quarterback Dan Marino went in his place.

From what I understand this is par for the course for the hard working Saban. His players said the same thing. "We all know Nick is serious about what we’re doing here and is committed to it," defensive end Jason Taylor said. I am sure media got a kick out it when President Bush talked about it in a speech on today.
