Despite a loss today, the Tigers still on top

July 22, 2006

Even with a loss to the Oakland Athletic’s this afternoon, the Detroit Tigers are still on top in the AL Central and still own the best records in the Major Leagues. The Tigers have a record of 65-32 and remain 6 games ahead of the Chicago White Sox.

The Tigers came into Saturdays game with A’s on a four game winning streak and were looking to make it five, unfortunately they weren’t able to hold off the A’s and they dropped todays game 9-5. For the most part the Tigers pitching is the most surprising reasons for the Tigers success this year has got to be their pitching, with two pitchers with 11 or more wins is something that hasn’t happened at this stage of the season in many years. Starter Justin Verlander has 12 wins and new comer to the Tigers pitching staff Kenny Rogers has 11 wins.

Barring a total collapse, the Tiger will be in the playoffs come October.
