Busch wins at New Hampshire

July 17, 2006

It was a rather disappointing race weekend for Dale Earnhardt Jr. on Sunday at New Hampshire. He day was cut short when the engine expired and he was knocked out of the race and finished 43rd. The worst part of it was that he lost 4 precious spots in the nextel Cup standings.

The #5 team was the strongest all day and Kyle Busch was able to keep the car out front to get his first win of the season and his thrid of his young career. Busch was the biggest gainer in the Nextel Cup standing moving up 4 spots while Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart were the two biggest losers, both dropping four spots.

Just when I thought Dale Jr. was comfortably in the Chase for the Cup, he goes and blows and engine and tumbles four spots. I still think he will be there after the next seven races, but it will just be a bit closer since he is only roughly 100 points ahead of the 12th place driver; Denny Hamlin.

Tony Stewart’s day was ruined after contact with Ryan Newman put him behind the wall and he finsihed 37th, 15 laps down from Busch. Ryan Newman finished two spots behind Stewart in 39th, but he was 21 laps down.
