July 12, 2006

The American League All-Stars up their streak of consecutive All-Star game victories with a 3-2 victory in last nights Mid Summer Classic in Pittsburgh. It wasn’t a high scoring game and that is due in large part because the pitchers.

Kenny Rogers (Detroit Tigers) pitched the first two innings and allowed only 3 hits and one run and struckout one batter. He was followed by Roy Halladay, who gave up the only other run that the NL had in his two innings. The rest of the 5 pitchers used by the AL manager no-hit the NL All-Stars. B.J Ryan pitched 8th inning and picked up the win and Mariano Riveria pitched the 9th inning and picked up the save.

There wasn’t a whole lot of offense generated by eith side, but Vladmire Guerrero homered for the AL and David Wright homered for the NL All-Stars. Michael Young hit the game winning triple with the AL down 2-1 in the 9th. That earned him the All-Star Game MVP.
