Spin to win
The headline says it all, Jeff Gordon pulls another spin to win out of his hat. With four laps to go Jeff Gordon was catching leader Matt Kenseth and I guess Gordon just can’t help himself. What I find is so appalling is NASCAR says it wants to be seen as being consistent in punishments? Well, then explain not black flagging Jeff Gordon when he hit Matt Kenseth and spun him to win the race? Jeff Gordon is still on probation for his pushing Matt Kenseth after a race a few weeks ago. What message is NASCAR sending with this, it could only be if you are Jeff Gordon you can do anything you want to win a race.
Wally Dallenbach as usual was making all kinds of excuses for Jeff spinning Kenseth; all of which were total bs. Not a single replay showed Kenseth bobbling, checking up or anything and Gordon just plain ran into him and caused him to spin. I just can’t see how Gordon can continue to win races like this and act like he earned the wins. He should have been black flagged and then punished severely since he is on probation. Mike Helton looks like a first class hypocrite getting in front of the drivers and claims they will be getting tougher on teams that break the rules.
Mike Helton claims that had they seen anything that looked intentional he would have penalized Gordon. Maybe Mike Helton needs to read these quotes from Jeff Gordon himself:
<blockquote>"I drove right in the back of him," Gordon said. "I didn’t mean to wreck him, but I didn’t mind moving him out of the way. If we can get the win, we are going to go really hard to get that win.</blockquote>
<blockquote>"While it’s a whole lot more fun to win without controversy, it’s still fun to win" said Gordon, who moved into 10th place in the standings, the final slot above the Chase for the Nextel Cup cutoff. "Matt’s got to understand that he’s in the Chase and we were out. …When I got to his bumper there was going to be action. We need wins, we need momentum and we need to be in the Chase."</blockquote>
It is simply pathetic that NASCAR would black flag Busch drivers a couple weeks ago for aggressive driving and let Gordon get away with it to win a race.
I am thrilled that my driver wasn’t the one that Gordon spun out of his way to win. Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a car that was able to lead the race and he did for 29 laps, but because of the fact that he wasn’t able to get any long green flag runs to wear his tires enough to make any runs for the lead. As it was Dale Jr. was able to finish fifth and maintain his third place position in the Nextel Cup standings. He also was able to gain a few points on points leader Jimmie Johnson and at the same time put a little distance (67 points) between him and fourth place Jeff Burton.
Matt Kenseth I am sure isn’t a happy camper with NASCAR and if Gordon is stupid enough to get anywhere near Kenseth will show Gordon exactly what he thought of the spin. If the spin wasn’t bad enough for Kenseth, he wrecked crossing the line and barely finished on the lead lap in 21st. Had he not got spun by Gordon and finish at least second he would have been the points leader and instead he is now 48 points behind Jimmie Johnson. Which of course is no coincidence that Jeff Gordon is Jimmie Johnson’s team mate and the spin ended up benefiting Jimmie Johnson.
By no means am I a fan of Matt Kenseth, but come on, Jeff Gordon was gaining on him and he looked like he could have cleanly passed Kenseth anywhere on the track and he chose to spin him out which cost Kenseth the win and the points lead.
I know all of the Gordon fans will come up with all kinds of excuses just like Wally Dallenbach tried to do, but nothing they can come up with will excuse what he did to win. Jeff Gordon has made a career out of spinning cars out to win, just ask Rusty Wallace, Gordon spun him out twice at Bristol Raceway to steal wins and a whole host of other wins have come using the same tactic.
WAKE UP MIKE HELTON (hypocrite) AND NASCAR, JEFF GORDON ISN’T"T WORTH RISKING THE INTEGRITY OF THE SPORT TO PLAY FAVORITES.
P.S. Sorry Don I was so pissed off after that I just started writing this after I calmed down enough to type. I know you are a Gordon fan, but even you have to stop making apologies for his behavior on the track. I saw 10 replays of the spin and Matt Kenseth didn’t bobble or checkup in front of Gordon, he flat out spun him to win a race.
